Who is the tennis player who caused a stir at the US Open?

After the uproar that broke out after the debut of the 16-year-old tennis player, Sara Bejlek, in the Grand Slam at the US Open 2022 for the “strange” celebration with her father and her coach, the athlete tried to “delete” the reactions to the viral video and replied that it will not happen again.

“Of course I saw the video. It was a spontaneous reaction from the whole team. We are happy,” Bejlek told reporters.

It can definitely look uncomfortable to some, but we have already discussed it with the team. It will not happen again. Dad is my dad and always will be. And I’ve known the coach since I was eight years old. She tapes me, massages me. If something similar happened in the Czech Republic, no one would bother about it. But because we are in America, everyone comments on it. But as I say, we talked and it won’t happen again,” said the 16-year-old.

Who is Sara Bejlek?

Sara Bejlek was born on January 31, 2006 in the Czech Republic.

Bejlek has a top WTA ranking of 181 in singles, achieved on 18 July 2022, and 671 in doubles, set on 1 August 2022. She has won her fourth ITF singles title and one ITF doubles title.

Bejlek won her biggest singles title to date at the 2021 ITS Cup, where she defeated Paula Ormaechea in the final 6–0, 6–0. This achievement secured her an improvement of 557 places compared to her previous WTA ranking.

In 2022, Bejlek made her WTA Tour qualifying debut at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships, but lost in the first round to Emina Bektas. A month later, she defended her ITS Cup title, this time defeating Lina Gjorcheska in the final. She continued to make progress thereafter, making her Grand Slam main draw debut at the US Open thanks to three wins in qualifying.

She is the youngest player in its main draw 2022 US Openas it was the youngest direct entry into the qualifiers.

The saying that characterizes her is “I belong to those who follow their dream every day, with toil, tears, blood and sweat every day. Persevering until we die, we just can’t stop.”

The viral video and the reactions

Sara Bejlek, a 16-year-old athlete originally from the Czech Republic, made headlines after the greeting with her father and coach went viral after her victory in the qualifying match.

After defeating Great Britain’s Heather Watson on Friday, the Twitterverse lost its … mind over video of Bejlek celebrating with her father, Jaroslav Bejlek, and her coach, Jakub Kahoun, in which she appeared to they repeatedly hit her behind.

“There is absolutely no reason to touch a 16-year-old girl on her bottom like that. It’s beyond inappropriate,” wrote one user on Twitter. “As the video went on, it got worse and worse.”

Another person reportedly wrote that the men were acting “creepy” towards the teenage athlete.

Viewers were outraged as the father was then shown kissing his daughter on the lips

The WTA needs to look into these especially since these young girls have been traveling with men from a very young age. Also, you can say it’s daddy, but does your daddy touch your bum like that?,” one person reportedly wrote on Twitter.

But other users felt differently. “It’s quite common in the Czech Republic,” another person tweeted, according to the Daily Mail. “It’s not something I would do, but a lot of men just don’t think about it in a sexual way. Google our Easter traditions, you might be shocked.”

Another added that hugging is “totally normal in some cultures and households. One sees what one wants to see.”

Bejlek made her US Open main draw debut on Monday, losing to Ludmilla Samsonova in the first round, 6-1, 6-3.
