Fotis Zisimopoulos took the lead in the 40th “Spartathlon”, winning for the second consecutive year in the 245 km long race, in which the participants cross the distance from Athens to the city of Sparta.

The Greek ultra-distance runner completed his effort in 21:00:50 and recorded the third best time in the history of the institution, surpassing the 21:53:42 performance of Yannis Kouros, while Torou Somiya finished second with a time of 21:18:06 .

The Japanese runner “battled” with Zisimopoulos throughout the day, but was unable to overtake him. The top three was completed by another Japanese, Yoshihiko Ishikawa with a time of 23:06:46, while Hungarian Tibor Eros finished fourth with a time of 23:23:44. Runner finishes continue.

It is recalled that the start of the 40th anniversary “Spartathlon” was given on Friday morning (06:40) at the foot of the Holy Rock of the Acropolis. The athletes then started their attempt towards Sparta with the time limit of managing to finish within 36 hours from the start.

The race is under the auspices of the Ministries of National Defense and Tourism.
