One huge cloud of smoke rises above the Paris because of of a fire that broke out in a food marketthe Rungis market which is practically an entire city of at least 12,000 workers within the French capital and constitutes one global gateway to continental Europe through which millions of tons of products are traded.

The Fire Department has appealed to citizens not to approach the area in the southern suburbs of Paris, as 100 firefighters with 30 vehicles are fighting the flames.

The spokesman for the Paris fire department, Marc Le Moine, said that there are no injuriesthat the fire was brought under control and there is no risk of it spreading from the football field-sized warehouse, which covers an area of ​​7,000 square meters.

“The cause of the fire remains unknown but will be investigated,” he added.

Rungis Market spans nearly 600 acres – an area larger than Monaco – with dozens of restaurants, banks, a post office and even a police station. An estimated three million tons of food products are traded annually to feed 18 million people.
