Recep Tayyip Erdogan used harsh language both against Israel and Benjamin Netanyahu personally, as well as against the USA. The Turkish president in his speech in Istanbul initially emphasized: “Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque is facing more and more ‘harassment’, with the identity of the ancient city being erased by Israel step by step. My ancestors served Jerusalem for 400 years. Their legacy cannot be erased.”

Then, according to what Anadolu reports, he fiercely attacked Israel. “Anyone looking for modern day pharaohs need look no further than those who mercilessly killed 35,000 Palestinians in the last 203 days. “Netanyahu, like the murderers before him, has etched his name shamefully in history as the slaughterer of Gaza,” Erdogan said.

He then reiterated his support for Hamas: “We will continue to see our brothers in Hamas, defending their homeland against the occupiers, as the Palestinian National Resistance”.

He then attacked the US: “Unconditional US military and diplomatic support for Israel does not contribute to a solution, but rather exacerbates the problem. While 35,000 people were mercilessly killed in Gaza, the US Senate’s approval of a $25 billion military aid package to Israel is the clearest indication of this,” Erdogan added.

He talks about the “fascist” response of the American authorities to pro-Palestinian student demonstrations in the USA

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan today condemned the US authorities’ response to the ongoing pro-Palestinian protests at US universities.

“We, like the rest of the world, have been following the events at American universities for the past week with great interest”, Erdogan told a conference on Palestine in Istanbul. Protesting students are receiving “threats” at Western universities, the Turkish president said.

“We are watching as those who have been lecturing us for years about democracy and freedom of expression and assembly suddenly become fascists when it comes to Israel’s interests“, he continued.

Erdogan’s government has itself been criticized for cracking down on student and academic protests after the president appointed an unpopular dean to the country’s top Bogazici university in 2021.

Numerous elite universities in the US have cracked down on pro-Gaza protests, with police making several arrests of student protesters. They accuse some participants in the pro-Palestinian demonstrations of anti-Semitic comments.
