The unknown phone call from the office of former Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis to the Maximos Palace

As known associates of the former prime minister Costas Karamanlis, after his speech in Anogeia where he referred to the issue of wiretappinghastened to invite those who might have misinterpreted his words, “to carefully read the speaking and they will realize that it does not contain spikes against the government” and that “he said the obvious things, so that public life does not poisoned from rumors and shadows”.

According to information, before the announcement was issued it preceded contact via phone between Panagi Kyriakou (where Mr. Karamanli’s office is located) and Maximus Palaceu. The purpose of the phone call was twofold. On the one hand, the associates of Mr. Karamanlis wanted to inform the prime minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis for the clarifications that would be given to the mass media regarding the much-discussed speech in Crete and on the other hand to inform the presidency of the government that the former president of the New Democracy will normally attend the following Saturday, September 10 at the Vellideo Conference Center that the Mr. Mitsotakis will speak to the productive classes in the context of the International Exhibition of Thessaloniki. This move was made because there were currently rumors that Mr. Karamanlis was absent from the central government event.

For the sake of history, we remind you that regarding the case of wiretapping the former prime minister said from Anogeia verbatim: “It is clarity and transparency fundamental demands for a lawful and smooth public life. Even more so when issues like hers arise monitoring telephone number of political leader, journalist or any citizen. In such situations, purification only occurs when they are fully clarified. The issue is so heavy and serious that it is not allowed and cannot be tolerated that there should be shadows left behind for the democratic normality. Light then! Bright light”.

And he continued: “That these events were caused by government initiative it is besides undemocratic and illegal, so beyond all bounds of morbid imagination and political folly as to be unthinkable. However, the need to clarify remains imperative who and with what justification did they ask for such a thing and by whom how they approved it. The invocation of privacy in such cases is subordinated to the need to purify public life. So everything is in the light and from then on, with cross-party cooperation, the corrections of the institutional regime that governs and its removal are necessary phone privacy but also the general functioning of the secret services. These elementary things to prevent further discrediting of the institutions”.
