Without the presence of people and with few people from the close family circle, the 56-year-old cattle breeder, who killed his ex-partner and the infant on Friday morning, was taken today to be buried in the cemeteries of the village of Lekanis Kavala, and then turned the gun in the head and ended his life.
As reported on protothema.gr, the first cousin of the perpetrator of the instant double murder that shocked the whole of Greece, no funeral procession was held, but the 56-year-old was immediately taken to his last residence to be buried. “We are all still shocked by what happened. Today there was silence in the village. The dead man went straight to the graves. His sister was there with his son-in-law, I, as a first cousin who raised him, with my daughter-in-law,” reports the woman, noting that “the body arrived accompanied by a patrol car, for fear that something bad might happen.”
The few relatives and the body, as the perpetrator’s cousin says, went directly to the graves and not to the church. “We are all very hurt by what happened, his sister passed out today as she couldn’t take it. Whatever happened was our blood, it’s very difficult for all of us. We are all trying to stand on our feet and realize what has happened. It is too difficult”.
At the same time, as a resident of the village reports to protothema.gr, absolute silence prevails in the area a few hours after the heinous crime until today. No one can believe that from one moment to the next a man who had not caused any quarrels with the villagers, decided to cold-bloodedly kill the mother of his child, the 11-month-old infant, and then end his life.
As he had reported yesterday on protothema.gr, the father of the 58-year-old breeder had no chance of attending his son’s funeral today, stressing that he had no contact with him.
“I know nothing. I was not talking to my son, nor had I seen my grandson. Only a madman would do such a thing, but he was not mad. I will not go to my son’s funeral,” said the father of the attacker specifically.
Killed child, then switched bullets to shoot 31-year-old, coroner says
From the autopsy which was completed today at noon at the Forensic Service of Komotini, it emerged that the 56-year-old assailant tried to kill himself twice, with the gratuitous shot being the one he fired with the single-barreled carbine into his head and specifically into his mouth.
As reported on protothema.gr, the experienced medical examiner Nikos Kifnidis, the perpetrator of the double murder shot the mother and the infant in the back and their death was instantaneous. First he shot the child in the left shoulder blade area with the shrapnel entering from the right and exiting from the left side of the shoulder blade, below the liver area. On the child’s body were found small shrapnel of those used by hunters to kill birds.
What is particularly impressive and shocking is that the 56-year-old perpetrator of the double murder, after killing the 11-month-old baby in front of his mother’s eyes, had the nerve to change the bullets in the single-barreled rifle and install wild boar pellets. Once the bullet was in place, he armed and shot the 31-year-old in the back, resulting in rupture of internal organs, such as heart, lungs and liver. The woman fell dead beside the lifeless body of her infant, and her own death was also instantaneous.
Twice he tried to kill himself
As it emerged from the forensic examination carried out by Mr. Kifnidis, the perpetrator of the horrific double murder that shocked the local community and the whole of Greece, attempted suicide twice, the first time the single-barreled carbine allegedly slipped from his hands when he put it to his chest.
As it turned out, the perpetrator had two bullet entry and exit gates. The first was from right to left when he fired and he allegedly slipped the gun causing the shrapnel to go under the skin and exit left under the armpit. From the first shot he suffered 4-5 rib fractures, however they were not fatal as the internal organs were not tampered with.
The perpetrator then loaded a new bullet into the single-barreled carbine, cocked the weapon and placed the barrel in his mouth giving the gratuitous shot, having suffered fractures and fragmentation of the brain, etc.
According to what the medical examiner reported to protothema.gr, it is one of the rare times that a sniper shoots twice.
The bodies of the woman and the infant will be transferred to Germanyin order to have their funeral.
