“Bella Ciao” was arranged in Persian as a tribute to Masha Amini, who died while in police custody for not wearing her headscarf properly in Iran. The song is heard in all the demonstrations, while the video in question has gone viral.

Already thousands of social media accounts have reposted the video of the World War II Italian anti-fascist song. The music of the song seems to be inspired by some old traditional song, while it is unknown who wrote the lyrics.

This song has been performed and covered by various artists in Italian, English, Greek, Russian, Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian, Hungarian, Spanish, Finnish, German, Turkish, Japanese, Chinese and Kurdish.

Masha Amini, 22, was arrested by the moral police, Ershad, in Tehran for not wearing her headscarf properly. They had her in a detention center and she was rushed to the hospital where she died a few hours later.
