Greece is celebrating two additional qualifiers for the Olympic team from Thursday afternoon. “Experienced” Byron Kokkalanis secured qualification for “Paris 2024” in the iQFOiL category, as did Cameron Maramenidis in the Formula Kite category.

Both, along with several other Greek sailors, are participating in the international competition in Hyères, France, which is also the last qualifying window for the Olympic Games (where so far Greece had not secured any presence).

Kokkalanis took one of the two qualifying tickets from the iQFOiL category. He took the 3rd place in the general classification in the iQFOiL category and this will be his fourth Olympic appearance after London in 2012, Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and Tokyo in 2020.

Cameron Maramenidis also qualified for the Olympic Games that will be held this summer in Marseille (for the sport of sailing) in the Formula Kite category, which also concluded on Thursday in the French city of Hyères. Maramenidis finished 4th in the new Olympic class, securing one of the three overall qualifications.

Very close to qualifying are Ariadni Spanakis and Odysseas Spanakis with a total of 470. After 10 races they are in 3rd place with 43 penalty points, the same as Slovenia, while it is worth noting that the first two places are crews from Italy. In fact, it is in the 3rd place of the Olympic qualification out of the four that will be given, with the next crew that claims it being that of South Korea, which has 75 penalty points.
