Arrested by the DI.AS Team, after a chase in the center of Athens, a smuggler who was caught transporting 15 illegal immigrants piled up in a van-type vehicle.
In the morning hours of Saturday, patrolling police officers of the Immediate Action, DI.AS Team, called the driver of a van-type vehicle moving on Ionias Avenue in Patisia for a check, because he was carrying a fake license plate.
The driver did not comply with the instructions of the policemen, he accelerated, making a maneuver towards Nikopoleos Street, with the policemen following the car in front from a sufficient safety distance, constantly calling the driver to stop the vehicle using a beacon and sound signals.
The van crashed into parked cars in the center of Athens
The vehicle then crashed into parked vehicles and the driver attempted to flee on foot, but was stopped on an adjacent street.
During the check, it was found that the driver was carrying 15 foreigners (10 adults and 5 minors), 6 women and 9 men.
Subsequently, they were taken to the headquarters of the Directorate of Aliens of Attica and the Immigration Management Department was charged with a preliminary investigation.
Charges were filed against the driver (a 39-year-old foreigner), a member of a migrant trafficking ring, for facilitating entry into Greek territory for profit, transporting foreigners inside, forgery and perjury.
The 39-year-old received the immigrants from the Prefecture of Magnesia, they gave between 1,000 and 2,000 euros
As emerged from the investigation, the 39-year-old picked up the immigrants in the early hours of the same day (27-4-2024) from an area of the Prefecture of Magnesia, in order to transport them to Athens.
The immigrants for this trafficking paid a sum of money ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 euros each.
The Immigration Management Department, which handled the case, initiated the registration-mapping process for the 15 immigrants, in order to implement their return to their country of origin.
He had again concerned the authorities
It is noted that the 39-year-old has engaged the authorities for similar crimes as he has been sentenced to 36 years in prison and a fine of 95,500 euros for illegally promoting immigrants to Greece.
The vehicle was seized as a means of illegally transporting immigrants.
The trafficker, with the case filed against him, was taken to the Athens District Attorney.
