On Friday, September 16, a meeting was held on the PPP waste management of the Peloponnese Region, in the presence of the Minister of the Interior, Mr. Makis Voridis, at the main building of the Peloponnese Region.
The 26 mayors of the Peloponnese Region, technical and legal advisors in matters of waste management, the Company with which there is cooperation and official agents such as the Director of Environment and Development Planning attended to take part in the discussion.
The regional governor of Peloponnese, Panagiotis Nikas, welcomed the Minister and presented him with an honorary plaque with Pelops, the mythical hero of the Peloponnese, as well as the book on the lack of water in the Region.
Mr. Nikas initially emphasized that Minister Mr. Voridis is a man with profound knowledge and a practical spirit, who has given his best to any ministry he has served.
The central topic of the discussion is waste management, which is ongoing and on the upswing, as Mr. Nikas characteristically said.
This is the first year that our Region, Peloponnese has done well in waste management.
Mr. Nikas informed the Minister that the waste management unit in Paleochuni receives the waste of Argolis, Corinthia, Arcadia, Sparta, Elafonisos and Western Mani. Regarding the municipality of Messini and the port in Kyparrisia, which still face a problem with waste, the solution will be the unit that will be built in Kallirroi.
It goes without saying that all units, all HADA, all landfills or landfills of Argolis, Corinthia and Arcadia must cease to operate
As of Monday, he declared that he will revoke the operating license of the landfill in Xylokastro.
In his turn, the Minister of the Interior, Mr. Makis Voridis, took the floor, who warmly thanked all those who attended the meeting. The Minister emphasized that the picture regarding waste in the Peloponnese has changed dramatically and does not resemble the past at all.
My own presence here for an issue that is eminently self-governing, yours and your relations with FODSA and the Region is only facilitating. That is, to listen to the problem, to listen to the thoughts with which it is considered that the problem can be solved, and if the Ministry needs to do something, we will do it
In closing, the Minister pointed out that the Ministry of the Interior will try to facilitate as far as it can and is possible.
