A thriller is underway in San Francisco as the 16-year-old daughter of the billionaire founder of the platform Slack, Stewart Butterfield, has mysteriously disappeared.

The 16-year-old heir to a fortune of 1.6 billion dollars of her billionaire father, has disappeared and is feared to be in one of San Francisco’s most notorious and dangerous neighborhoods, the Tenderloin.

THE Mid Butterfielddaughter of wealthy businessman Stewart Butterfield, was last seen Sunday night (21.04.2024) around 10:00 PM in Bolinas, California, and was reported missing the next morning by her mother, Flickr founder Katerina Fake, according to the San Francisco Standard.

When she went missing, Mead was living with her mother, as her parents are divorced, and was attending a private boarding school in the Napa area, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Marin County Sheriff’s Office posted a “missing person” flyer with Mead’s photo on the social media platform Nextdoor on Tuesday.

According to the San Francisco Standard, Mead has a history of substance abuse and is known to frequent the Tenderloin. Police have not yet said whether she went there voluntarily or if there is any indication she is being held against her will.

The teenager was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt, pants and black boots. She is described as having brown/reddish curly hair and pierced eyebrows.

Mint Butterfield reportedly has a history of substance abuse and is known to frequent the Tenderloin in the past.

The Tenderloin, located in downtown San Francisco, is a rough neighborhood known for violent crime, homelessness, drug dealing, and prostitution in downtown San Francisco.

Mid’s father, Stewart Butterfield, co-founded the messaging app Slack and is worth an estimated 1.6 billion dollars.

In 2013, Butterfield initially created Slack as a means of communication for the development team of a video game that his company was preparing.

When plans didn’t go the way he wanted, he decided to evolve Slack.

Slack combines group discussions, file uploads, topic categorization, and notifications into a single program that syncs across all devices (PC, Mac, Android, iOS).

Slack was acquired by Salesforce in 2021 for $28 billion, and Butterfield left the company in 2022.

The 16-year-old’s mother is Katerina Fakewhich initiated the creation of the service Flickr with her then partner Butterfly. They sold the image-hosting site to Yahoo in 2005. The couple married in 2001 and stayed together until 2007, when their daughter Mid was born.

Butterfield then married Jen Rubio, co-founder of Away – an American luggage and travel accessories brand, and the couple have two young children.

Fake is married to Jaiku co-founder Jiri Engstrom and they have three children together.

The 2021Butterfield bought a $31.7 million mansion in Aspen, Colorado.

The property features a gym, state-of-the-art home theater, a second entertainment area with a bar and pool table, a 500-bottle wine cellar, tasting room, six en-suite bedrooms and a three-car garage.

Butterfield also owns a $19 million home in San Francisco, which has seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms and is located in the upscale Presidio Heights neighborhood.

THE American journalist Yshar Ali and a friend of 16-year-old Mead pleaded with users on X for help in the search for Mead, saying:

“I don’t ask for your help often, but I need it now…my 16-year-old friend is missing. “Please spread the word and if you have any information on their whereabouts call the number on this flyer.”
