A journalistic investigation by the Italian public channel Rai Tre, which referred in detail to the Meloni government’s agreement with that of Edi Rama to create in northern Albania two closed centers for persons seeking asylum in Italy, provoked the strong reaction of the Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama.

More specifically, the show Report, in its analytical research, among others, argued that it is very likely that the cost of this entire agreement will eventually rise, over a period of five years, to one billion euros and not to six hundred million euros, as originally announced .

At the same time, the show refers to Enjiel Agacci, secretary of the Albanian cabinet, whom it describes as one of Rama’s closest collaborators. According to Rai Tre’s investigation, until 2013 he maintained a well-known law firm in Rome and allegedly succeeded in extraditing Albanian drug traffickers to their country, where they reportedly served lesser sentences than those they had been sentenced to in Italy.

The Albanian Prime Minister has announced that he is going to file a defamation lawsuit against Rai’s broadcast. “A channel which is paid with the money of the Italian citizens, proceeded to shamefully defame our country, as was the case when the Albanians were presented by the Italian media only as drug dealers, murderous thieves and prostitutes,” said Edi Rama, in a news gate of his country. These statements of his are reproduced with emphasis today by the Italian press. The former mayor of Tirana and current prime minister adds that “there was no mention, from the show, of written answers that had been sent to its contributors”.

For his part, Sigfrido Ranucci, presenter of the show Report and a well-known journalist, underlined that “everything contained in the report is proven by papers and a series of facts” and added that “Agacci, as it was rightly reported, took over as legal advisor to Eddie Rama and contributed to the writing of the Italy-Albania cooperation protocol, on immigration”.

Finally, the Italian journalist underlined that Rama and Agacci refused to grant an interview to Report and that the letter from Angel Agacci’s lawyer has been posted on the show’s website.
