Today at noon the apology of Floros, who is accused of a felony – The spark that led to the ignition was lit during the session of the Plenary, when the proposal to lift the immunity of Kyriakos Velopoulos, following a lawsuit against him by K. Floros’ father, was being discussed for defamation

As a black page in the parliamentary events of the Post-colonial period, yesterday’s unprecedented episode of fistfight in the peristyle of the Parliament will be etched in the memory of many, with the independent MP K. Floros – who was elected with the Spartans in June 2023 – punching the Hellenic Solution MP B. Writtenturning the space outside the plenary hall into an “informal ring”.

The condemned incident of beating, caused – as expected – disgust but also embarrassment within the parliament, with the MPs remaining “numb” for a long time in the corridors and the older ones commenting that they were “awakened by memories” of what they experienced during the dark period of thumping of the Golden Dawn. Those in the know pointed out that such incidents within the walls of the Parliament do not exceed the number of the fingers of one hand in the last 50 years, with yesterday’s however “exceeding all expectations”.

How we got to the manual court

The fuse that led to the ignition was lit during the session of the Plenary, when the proposal to remove the immunity of the President of the Greek Solution was being discussed. Kyriakos Velopoulosafter a lawsuit against him, filed by father of Konstantinos Florosaccusing him of libel.

The “vendetta” between Velopoulos and Floros has deep roots in time, as Efstathios Floros, although he was one of Kyriakos Velopoulos’ close collaborators in the Hellenic Solution, himself distanced himself from the party.

The atmosphere in the room began to electrify, when after Mr. Chita’s presentation – who assessed that the lawsuit is not connected to Mr. Velopoulos – Mr. Floros asked for the floor, in order to speak on behalf of his father – something he did not the Regulation of the Parliament provides.

At this point, it seems that the intense verbal sparring – according to some with extremely abusive characterizations – between the independent MP and that of Hellenic Solution, B. Grammenos, begins, while a few minutes later the situation drags out.

On the steps of the peristyle, K. Floros punches Vassilis Grammenos, with the Hellenic Solution MP falling to the floor, the guard intervening to separate them and the latter being taken to the Parliament’s infirmary, in order to provide him with first aid.

“I saw a deputy lying on the floor and some people trying to pick him up. On his nose the hit mark I can tell it was deformed, his nose had changed color. He left with help to go to the doctor’s office” said a little later the member of the ND, Christos Boukoros who was in front of the episode.

The reaction of the bureau

The confusion of the routes quickly spread to the circles of the Presidium of the Parliament which – due to the unprecedented event – was looking for a clear framework of measures in order to implement.

Initially, from the floor of the Plenary, Konstantinos Tasoulas announced the removal of K. Floros from the Parliament and the parliamentary proceedings for 15 days, accompanied by the guard, underlining himself that this is a measure of “caress against vulgarity and brutality of his behavior”.

A few minutes later, the PtB returned, stating that it is activating the automatic procedure against the MP, based on article 157 of the Criminal Code for the charge of violence against a political body or the Government.

“He is punishable by up to 10 years in prison. This means that because immunity covers misdemeanors but not felonies, we can prosecute the offender for a felonious crime,” he said.

The next day

Immediately after what Mr. Tasoulas said, K. Floros was taken to GADA, with the Prosecutor’s Office proceeding with criminal prosecution for violence against a member of parliament during the performance of his duties (article 157PC) and the member of parliament receiving a term of office until today , in order to apologize.

At the same time, according to the parliamentary representative of Hellenic Solution, V. Grammenos has suffered fracture nasal bones, sprain as well as traumatic rupture of the wrist and fifeocarpal ligament.

The MP has been fitted with a splint and has received a ten-day sick leave.

The episode was condemned by all parties.
