On Radio Arvyla on Monday 4/22, Antonis Kanakis made a revelation about the effort made by the people of the show Vinyl to bring a guest to the show for the first time, to speak in an open discussion, a politician. But not just anyone, but the prime minister himself, Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

The presenter and producer of the two shows revealed the contacts they had with the director of Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ communications office, the initial answers they received and the final negative outcome, with him admitting that he never had any hope of such an open discussion taking place from a politician visiting entertainment shows to only talk about dolmaadas and light topics and not an issue like crime in Tempe.

“We invited Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the next day after we addressed the invitation publicly, we addressed it normally in his office to the Communications Director. We did this March 21st so that there would be enough time and we said any day and whenever you want you come. We didn’t get any response until last Friday where an appointment was made and we spoke to the Prime Minister’s Communications Director and they said they are positive. Then we had a discussion about what the framework will be and that it will be nothing pre-agreed, there will be nothing controlled and that we will have a discussion based on Tempe, but not only on Tempe. We will discuss in general and from our side we will be neither friendly nor hostile. We will be neutral and speak with arguments and fairly, logically about everything.

He told me that they will discuss it with the rest of the team and the Prime Minister. It’s been 11 days since then and the day after tomorrow we finish the broadcasts. There was no response, effectively confirming – to be honest I had no hope that it would come – that the choice of appearances is made either for dolmaadas and shenanigans or when talking on news shows in a context that is either totally controlled or micro-controlled. In no case is it going to come, as it turns out, to have a real discussion with a counterargument without anything being pre-agreed, an open conversation. We are very sorry. We are very sorry for this development, although we expected it. It turns out that when you are not “clean”, you avoid and want everything to be controlled when it comes to having a public discussion”, said Antonis Kanakis, among others, while showing a video of Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ visits to entertainment shows.
