They were taken to Anakritria shortly after 9 am top ten out of a total of 67 arrested hooligan those who are accused of the incidents in Rentis in which the policeman was murdered George Lyggeridisand for participation in a criminal organization.

The prosecutor brought charges against them criminal prosecution for numerous felonies and all of them requested and received a deadline from the Investigator in order to apologize today for the drug cases in which they are involved.

During the weekend, the apologies of the others are expected to be completed.

Straight shot and whoever the Grace takes”

In the meantime, a well-planned, meticulously organized plan to provoke incidents targeting the police forces that included not only preparation, but even instructions so that the police investigation would not be able to identify them after their criminal activity, seems to have unfolded outside from the Melina Merkouri gym in Rentis on the evening of December 7, 2023. “We went to c… the MAT”, one of the main accused cynically confesses in a conversation that has been recorded after the removal of the phone privacy and at another point of the shocking dialogue he admits that the episodes were staged and boasts that since they killed a man they are now the toughest.

As it appears from the case file and the evidence that has been collected, the organizers and executors of the incidents, which ended in the murder of the 31-year-old MAT police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis, aimed that night “to be with the cops” without caring whether they would human life was lost, as it was.

The key movement of ELAS

The crucial move made on the evening of December 7th was the order to keep all those who were there to watch the Olympiakos-Panathinaikos volleyball match inside the gymnasium. After the episodes, dozens of their protagonists had returned to the stadium and, following the instructions of the organizers, had gotten rid of clothes and objects that would burden their position. A total of 424 people were brought in that night of which 384 gave dna and fingerprints, and were also tested for gunpowder. The rest had either refused to give dna, or were minors (16-17). The only people allowed to leave the stadium that night were the two teams’ delegations, accredited journalists and the under-15s.

At the same time, the police that same night collect all the objects that the perpetrators they had attempted to get rid of them to make their identification impossible or even very difficult.

As noted, while organized fans usually wear their team’s colors and insignia to games, on that night the 150 or so who were privy to the episode’s design were dressed in black and most had means of concealing their features. , using full face, half face hoods and even disposable masks. When they returned to the gym after their murderous attacks on the police they threw everything they could: Jackets, blouses, masks, gloves, hats, they threw unused flares, stones. In fact, in the toilets of the stadium, some tried to burn clothes and other items that led to their identification. The police collected everything, they even searched in garbage cans around the stadium, in greens and everything that was collected was sent to the Forensic Laboratories. There began the process of comparing the data provided by the objects -dna- with the samples of genetic material from those brought.

It is typical that in their statements the defendants now answer almost identically to the question why they threw away the clothes and essentially admit that they did it so that it would not be easy to identify them. They say they did it “so as not to be unjustly accused”.

The plan of the authors that changed

All this was happening on the field, while Giorgos Lyggeridis was already fighting an unequal battle to stay alive. While he was lying on the ground, bleeding profusely, hit by the naval flare that had been fired “directly” and had hit him in the femoral artery of the left leg, one of the members of the hooligan criminal organization targeted him again, this time time with molotov cocktails. It hit him on his right leg.

That night, as it appears from the voluminous file, when the incidents occurred near the stadium, there were only two MAT squads. The forces would be reinforced a little later. But the plan of the captains and morale makers changed on the field. As has emerged from witness statements – critical are the facts provided by the three witnesses who testified under protection status – the original plan was to attack the police after the end of the match. However, one of the leaders, with the nickname “Kontos”, entered the field and after talking with the so-called “Omle” and another leading member of the organization, he called the initiates to leave the field at that moment. The scene is recorded in a video included in the case file, while one of the leaders can be seen sending messages from his mobile phone and two others making a characteristic movement to get out those who were in the stands.

Police collected a series of videos that they have recorded persons and the way they have acted. There are also videos from inside the stadium, from ERT-3, which covered the match on television, from social media, but also from material handed over to the police on a stick showing the faces on the pitch of the stadium who then went outside and took part in the episodes.

At the same time, by taking videos from many cameras of businesses and organizations, it was established the route taken by the organizers of the incidents. From camera to camera, the route “led” to the Karaiskaki stadium. There were gathered 34 people who are now accused, and there, outside the stadium, they loaded munitions. Naval flares, molotov cocktails, gasoline and they left there for Melina Merkouri in a convoy: About 15 motorcycles flanked the four cars in which the material had been loaded.
As noted, in fact, the specific gym was chosen because it did not have cameras and thus, as they believed, it would be even more difficult to identify them in the episodes. There was no specific reason for the incidents – only that they were planned and took place the day after the 15th anniversary of the murder of Alexandros Grigoropoulos, and the police were the sole target.

Deprivation

The police, after the murder of Giorgos Lyggeridis, proceeded to remove the telephone privacy of certain persons, who had already been targeted by their presence at the stadium. Some, in fact, were known to the authorities for other cases of offenses related to sports venues, and not only. It is characteristic that one of the current defendants, 12 years ago, when he was 20 years old, had taken part and been convicted of setting fire to a barbershop in Metamorfosi and attacking its foreign owner with a knife. This particular person is known in the hooligan world with the nickname “Kokos”.

From the recording of phone calls, in fact, movements and relationships between them were established, but their intentions were mapped more clearly on the evening of December 7.M. K.-Th. And two of his friends. One of the two even tells him at one point about Giorgos Lyggeridis that he went to do his job and was found dead. Then, the defendant curses vulgarly, insulting the memory of the policeman and then mocks.
