Butchers and breeders expressed their strong dissatisfaction with the recent announcements by the Minister of Development, Mr. Kostas Skrekas, who set a ceiling of 10 euros per kilo for the highest selling price of lamb.

In a climate of confirmation of the very good climate that prevails between the two collaborating branches of butchers and livestock farmers, a joint press conference was held again this year with the main topic of the lamb market ahead of the Easter festive season, in the presence of a consumer representative, which was organized under the auspices of of Professional Chamber of Thessalonikiand hosted at his headquarters.

Butchers and breeders expressed their strong dissatisfaction with the recent announcements by the Minister of Development, Mr. Kostas Skrekas, who set a ceiling of 10 euros per kilo for the highest selling price of lamb.

They jointly called on the government and the relevant ministry not to set informal ceilings. The President of the Panhellenic Union of Butchers (POKK) Mr. Savvas Kesidis he said in this regard “the Minister of Development came out and put a ceiling on the price of amnoerifia. We don’t know either the quality or the origin.”

For his part, the Vice-President of the Greek Livestock Association (SEK), Dimitris Moschosperforming an analysis of production costs, underlined that the price set by the Ministry assumes a loss of at least 2 euros per kilo for livestock farmers.

The President of the Professional Chamber of Thessaloniki Mr. Michalis Zorpidis in a common line he emphasized “prices must be arranged by breeders and traders”. At the same time, he criticized the fact that while the chambers are official advisors of the state, “from the EETH, its advice was not requested”.

Regarding their estimates for the cost of selling quality A’ lambs sold in local butchers, Mr. Kesidis pointed out “the butchers will squeeze our profit and we will back the price to keep it at 15 euros and lower than this psychological for the consumer limit”.

The President of the Working Consumers Union of Greece Mr. Apostolos Rautopoulos he said “this year will be the most expensive Easter compared to previous years. Food prices have increased by 6%”, to add “14% of workers are unable to buy their daily food every month. Last year the punctuality check (Easter allowance) and the market pass were given. This year they are not given.”

Mr. Kesidis he also referred to the illegal Hellenizations of Amnoerifi, announcing that there was communication with the competent control bodies to combat the phenomenon of illegal Hellenizations. However, he expressed his displeasure at the oligarchy you observe.

Finally, the president of the Butchers’ Association of the Prefecture of Thessaloniki Mr. Nikolaos Balapanidisexplained that there are categories in the quality of the lambs and that the neighborhood butchers choose the A’ selections while those that are B’ and C’ are directed to other points of sale.
