THE Princess Beatrice is going through difficult times after her first love, the American playboy Paolo Liuzzi, was found dead in a Miami hotel. He allegedly overdosed on drugs and is said to have owed huge sums of money to loan sharks.

According to a Sun report, he died in a hotel room at the citizenM Miami Worldcenter at 3:34 p.m. on February 7. His body was reportedly flown to his hometown of Long Island, New York, where his funeral took place on February 16.

Officer Michael Vega of the Miami Police Department told the Sun on Wednesday that his death was “investigated as an overdose” and that the investigation is “open and ongoing.”

Prince Andrew’s daughter started dating Liuzzo in 2005, when she was 17 and he was 24, but the couple split in 2006.

Beatrice is said to be devastated by the news of Liuzzo’s death, according to the Sun. Sources said Liuzzo struggled with gambling as well as drugs and had allegedly run up debts to loan sharks. A friend of Liuzzo told the Sun: “Paolo was not doing well on a personal level.

At first he began using many pharmaceutical drugs, but this later led to cocaine and harder drugs. It was a very fast-paced lifestyle and we all feared that it would eventually catch up with him.”

Liuzzo reportedly struggled with drugs and had previously been arrested in Australia for a number of offences, including possession of cocaine.

He was arrested on the Gold Coast on September 27, 2009, after crashing a black rental Audi worth $90,000 at traffic lights. The then 27-year-old also failed to pay his accommodation and restaurant bills at the Conrad Jupiters casino.

Australian prosecutors charged Liuzzo with fraud, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, possession of two grams of cocaine and driving without due care. Liuzzo pleaded guilty and was fined $5,000.

His controversial past began in 2002, when he was accused of murdering a fellow student at the College of the Holy Cross.

His fellow student, 19-year-old Jonathan R. Duchatellier, died as a result of an altercation that took place on May 5, 2002, at an off-campus apartment building on Cambridge St. 510, in which Liuzzo participated. The charge was later reduced to assault, and Liuzzo served a community sentence.

Liuzzo, who hailed from Woodbury, New York, was considered a US socialite at the time of his romance with Beatrice.

Liuzzo and Beatrice met through mutual friends and started dating in July 2005 and managed to keep their relationship a secret for almost a year. They split in May 2006, when reports of the manslaughter charge came to light, causing a sensation.

Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson encouraged their daughter’s romance with Liuzzo, despite their seven-year age difference and his criminal record. ‘We all have our own paths and we have to learn our way, but Beatrice is a sensible girl, soon to be 18 years old, with many friends, including Paolo” said the Duchess of York when her daughter’s relationship with the American socialite began.

The princely couple invited Liuzzo on a family holiday to the exclusive Swiss ski resort of Verbier.

It then emerged that Liuzzo had breached the terms of his probation to holiday with the Queen’s granddaughter and her family in Switzerland in 2006. As a result, he was returned to the US, where the courts extended his three-year suspension as punishment. forcing Beatrice to end the fledgling romance.

In 2007 he embarrassed the royal family by claiming he smoked weed in the presence of Beatrice, Eugenie’s sister and their mother, Sarah Ferguson, while they were on holiday in Jamaica.

He was among a group of eight, including the princesses, who went on a 10-day Caribbean holiday in 2005. The self-proclaimed playboy also admitted he cheated on Beatrice during their relationship – and said he wanted to introduce him to the Queen.
