The Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance detailed a series of current tax issues, Haris Theocharis, on the occasion of his interview on ERT and the show “Connections”.

Specifically regarding the tax declarations, Mr. Theocharis explained that “from today, April 25, 2024, the platform for submitting tax returns opens, with a deadline of July 26. The planned installments for the repayment of the debts are 8 and reach until February 2025, while if someone chooses the one-time payment of the entire amount due, he is entitled to a 3% discount».

In addition, Mr. Haris Theocharis emphasized that “this year we had changes, mainly because we legislated a very important innovation, the automatic completion and submission of the tax return for many of our fellow citizens. So now, even if someone forgets to submit their declaration by the deadline, they are not in danger of incurring a fine, since the declaration will have been submitted automatically. But, precisely because of this legislation, we had to postpone the start date of submitting the declarations. Usually this happened on March 30th, but this year we extend a hand of confidence to accountants and taxpayers by opening the declaration process on April 25th. By adjusting the deadlines, we can all fulfill our obligations on time because we will not give any more extensions».

In relation to the issue of POS and cash register interfaces, the Deputy Minister emphasized that “no further extension will be granted. This financial staff, this administration of the Ministry of National Economy and Finance does not give extensions. Our methodology is specific. We are starting immediately and will publicize how the checks will be done. The checks will start with the ‘big fish’. We will not start from the small to end up with the big, because the big obviously have increased financial resources and capabilities. However, 94% of the obligees have already completed the interconnection process or booked the appointment so that the issue will be over by the end of April. From our side, as the Ministry of Finance, out of respect for the effort of these consistent people, we cannot discount the remaining 6%».

Regarding the previous issue, Mr. Theocharis commented, especially for freelancers, that “Whoever disputes the presumptive income must prove it. His lifestyle must match this income, which is implicitly a mini ‘pothen esches’. That is, you cannot declare 2 or 3 thousand euros as annual income and do e.g. traveling abroad, living a completely different everyday life. In this case there is no question of any termination, but at the moment, when someone is checked, based on the rules of the AADE, they cannot be checked again».

Next, regarding the banks’ commissions, Mr. Haris Theocharis described the matter as important, pointing out that “the kiosk pays a commission for each transaction. In the coming days, relevant legislation will come. We have given the market time to make the necessary arrangements, however it does not appear that this agreement will be immediate. For us, time is up and that is why we are legislating in the next few days the reduction of bank fees for transactions up to 10 euros».

About the Vehicle Traffic Fees, Mr. Theocharis stated that “from May 1, the process of paying the Fees per month will be activated. However, the fine provided for the case where someone moves his vehicle, while he has declared it stationary, certainly applies as it is. And it is a fine of 10,000 euros, because it is a very serious violation.”

Finally, commenting on what happened yesterday in the Greek Parliament, he characterized it as a sad and out-of-society event. “Some are trying to bring back a climate that we experienced in the period of 2012 and 2013. We see people who are cut off from society. All they care about is hurting democracy. All of us must think again about which parties we put in the Parliament, which parties we send to the European Parliament. We see people who, instead of promoting politics, seek to divert attention elsewhere”, added Mr. Theoharis.
