New arrests are coming for the murder of Lyggeridis – The stick that helped EL.AS. to “tie up” the case

New evidence is revealed about how the Greek Police “tied up” the case and led to the identification of the main core of hooligans who caused the incidents in Rentis, which resulted in the murder of the 31-year-old police officer, Giorgos Lyggeridis.

In particular, an unknown person left a stick at door 5 in Karaiskakis with a video – document of the movements of the organized.

According to the Star, on February 18 the unknown person called the Sports Violence Prevention Service at 3:00 p.m., saying: “I left a flashlight across from gate 5 in Karaiskakis. It has the movements of those organized before the episodes.”

After the phone call, the police officers proceeded to investigations and found the material which contained 15 files with 15 videos showing who went out, who was involved in the incidents and the movements of the two leaders of the criminal organization, as the report states.

There are still 8 videos in the hands of the security that betray the movements of the hooligans and 6 are from the mobile phones of 4 of the accused, while the two were sent by email, anonymously to the service.

The specific stick was examined, however, no DNA was found and it is assumed that it may be one of the arrested persons who gave the information.

New arrest warrants are coming for Rentis
In the meantime, according to OPEN, the investigation into the incidents at Rentis and the murder of the police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis, as the Sports Violence department is preparing to issue other arrest warrants, as there are other people who were in the stands and took part in the incidents and have not been arrested.

In the major investigation by the Directorate for Combating Violence in Sports Venues of the Attica Security Directorate, it was determined that the total 160 members of the criminal organization, at least since 2019, were committing criminal acts with a sports background, while in an extensive police operation 63 members were arrested, as well as 4 more people.

In more detail, the narrow core of the criminal organization consisted of 8 people who also had a leadership role, even being characterized as “big”, since they had the universal and unquestionable acceptance and obedience of the junior members, aged 16 to 24, who were called “little” and constituted the striking force when carrying out attacks.

The criminal charges brought against them concern twelve felonies and numerous misdemeanors.
