The Municipality of Corinth welcomes today the Olympic Flame of the Olympic Games

The Municipality of Corinth is preparing to host the Olympic Flame of the 33rd Olympic Games, PARIS 2024, on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at 8:00 PM in Flisvos of Corinth. This is a great moment for the history and culture of our region as after 20 years the Olympic Flame returns to Corinth. Equally important is the fact that our city will be the last overnight stop of the Olympic Flame on Greek soil, before its handover to the French organizers on April 26 at the Kallimarmaro Stadium in Athens, the place where the first Olympic Games of the modern era were held in 1896. The Flame will stay overnight at the French Embassy for one night and then depart the next day (4/27) for France.

The Municipality of Corinthia will welcome the Olympic Flame by organizing a modest and imposing ceremony at the same time, praising the Olympic Ideals and honoring “Eu Agonizesthai” and “Eugeni Amilla”, the universal values ​​of Olympism that are always relevant. This great celebration is a bridge from the past to the present for our city. Since ancient times, our city has participated in the Olympic Games and has presented Olympic medalists, while we have had corresponding distinguished performances by our athletes in the modern Olympic Games, with a brilliant example of our Olympian and Member of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, Mr. Nikos Xylouris, who will also be the last torchbearer in Corinth.

The Olympic Flame will arrive in Corinth on April 25 at 19:15 and its route will start from Patron Street, continuing along Georgiou Papandreou and Ethnikis Antistasos streets with torchbearers and distinguished Corinthian athletes, before ending up at Pegasus, where the touch of the flame at the Altar is scheduled for 20:00. The ceremonial part of the event will follow with the playing of the National Anthems of Greece and France and the Olympic Anthem. Speeches will follow from the Mayor of Corinth and from the representatives of the Olympic Committees of Greece and France respectively, according to the protocol. The event will be accompanied by musical events in collaboration with the Municipal Philharmonic Orchestra and the “Kalogeropouleio” Foundation, while the participation of students and children from our schools will be large.
