Deep emotion in the Israeli Community of Volos for the death of the honorary president

The Israeli Community of Volos bids farewell with emotion and love to its honorary president Raphael A. Frezis, who passed away, just a few days old, last Saturday, April 20, 2024. His funeral will be held today, Thursday, April 25, at 2:30 p.m. at the Holy Synagogue, Xenophontos & Platonos Street.

In a statement, the Israeli Community of Volos emphasizes that the deceased was a brilliant and versatile personality, with a valuable and long-term contribution to the Community, Greek Jewry and the local community.

Raphael Frezis, from his youth, consistently fought for his beliefs and decisively contributed to the reconstruction of the Community after the Nazi Persecution and also after the damage suffered by the earthquakes. His activity in various committees elevated him to the position of General Secretary of the Community, from 1957 to 1975 and its President until 2005.

In addition to his contribution to community affairs, the deceased was engaged in the study of Jewish issues and the writing of important books, monographs and articles, highlighting the Jewish presence in Volos and in Greece in general.

He also dealt with the public in his professional field and became a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Commercial Representatives and of the Administration of the Chamber of Magnesia, from which he was honored upon his retirement.

“Particularly, it is emphasized in a relevant announcement – we were moved by the letter of His Eminence Metropolitan Dimitriados & Almyros Mr. Ignatiou from 22/4/2024, which refers with warm words to the personality of the deceased.

Raphael Frezis was a good husband and family man, a capable and active man with a deep love for Judaism and a beloved person in the wider society, with offer and acceptance by all. Baruch dayan amet.”

Raphael Frezis was a prominent personality of the Israeli Community of Volos, which he also served as president and was the father of the famous conductor, Errikos Frezis.

The family wishes instead of wreaths that the money be allocated to the Israeli Community of Volos for its charity work.

TAHYDROMOS expresses its sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.
