In particular, he is asked to apologize for violence against a member of parliament in the exercise of his duties.

How it all happened

The occasion was the discussion in the Plenary Session of the Parliament of the lifting of the immunity of the president of the Hellenic Solution, Kyriakos Velopoulos, whose case concerned defamation through a false account on a social network that had been submitted by an officer e.a. of the Navy.

Mr. Floros, whose father had filed the lawsuit against Mr. Velopoulos, he had asked to take the floor in the Plenary, however the regulation did not allow it and he was not given it, reacting to a report by the parliamentary representative of the Hellenic Solution Constantinos Chitas.

Speaking to the parliamentary editors, Floros claimed that there was a verbal episode in the chamber about the removal of Velopoulos’ immunity. According to Floros the following was said:

K. Floros: The judges will decide what will happen to Velopoulos.

B. Written: Shut up you trash

K. Floros: Come on.

B. Written: C@@ your mother… I’ll take you, your mother, and with the bracelets inside you’ll remember it in the past.

When the two men then walked out of the Plenary. Mr. Floros attacked him, grabbed him by the neck, punched him and threw him to the floor. Immediately after, Vassilis Grammenos was taken to the clinic of the Parliament and first aid was provided to him.

For its part, the Hellenic Solution rejects the information in question, speaking of “imaginative so-called dialogue”. “The dialogue in question was given by the accused himself – for a felony now – but also by some “well-wishers”, who are trying to involve the Greek Solution, by inventing it, as a line of defense”, he notes, among other things.

“I headlocked him”

According to ALPHA and after being asked a question by the reporter of the television station, Konstantinos Floros has not regretted his act, adding that Mr. Grammenos cursed his mother.

“I was beside myself, he cursed my mother. I didn’t hit him, I headlocked him. Is this behavior, cursing me in the Parliament?”, said Mr. Floros characteristically.

15-day suspension and request to waive immunity

The Speaker of the Parliament, Konstantinos Tasoulas, asked for the highest penalty provided by the Parliament’s regulations, namely the expulsion of Konstantinos Floros from the Parliament for 15 days.

“The Regulation of the Parliament does not provide for brutal behavior, so it is lenient. The heaviest I can impose is to remove him with the guard for 15 days from the business of the House. Caress against obscenity,” said Mr. Tasoulas, stressing that there will be a waiver of immunity and he will face criminal charges.

In fact, addressing the president of Hellenic Solution, K. Velopoulos, who had risen to the podium, Mr. Tasoulas said: “Mr. President, I apologize as the president of the Parliament for this incident. I feel like it’s about me too. It happened a while ago here, outside the Plenary. We will make sure that the consequences of this act are as severe as possible”, stressed Mr. Tasoulas.

Commenting on the episode, Mr. Velopoulos considered it “unthinkable that parts of the life of politics behave violently like sheep-like wolves. Everyone can find as many excuses as they want […] Do you know what is the difference between humans and other animals? Animals may react if you tease them. But man differs in mind, judgment and logic, which some people do not have here, unfortunately”.

What does Floros’ lawyer say?

THE lawyer of Mr. Floros, Vasso Pantazis spoke to Newsbomb.gr about the events and about her principal’s position on them.

“An isolated, unfortunate incident, this whole dispute has a personal background, of course it has no political analysis, I cannot understand why there is a political speculation at this time,” he said.

“We live in a society where the criminal legislature has provided for removal of the wrongdoer when there is justifiable indignation for specific acts,” he added.
