Today the decision of the Supreme Court is expected on whether the Spartans will participate in the European elections.

Specifically, today is expected the decision on which of the 46 combinations and parties that have submitted the relevant application will receive the green light to participate in the upcoming European elections.

The Spartans have filed a normal ballot, however they are being checked for the party’s ties to Ilias Kasidiaris, who was convicted of participating in a criminal organization. ND, PASOK and New Left had submitted memorandums in the previous days to the Areopagus against the participation of the Spartans, emphasizing the relations with the imprisoned gold miner. ND, in its memorandum, noted that this is the natural leader of the party and requested the exclusion of the party from the European elections.

At the same time, it is expected that there will soon be developments from the Electoral Court, which will decide whether the Spartans should lose their seats in the Parliament, in case it judges that their natural leader is the one convicted of participation in a criminal organization and incarcerated in Ilias Kasidiaris prison. Which will either lead to a proportional distribution of their seats to the other parties, or to repeat elections in the districts where they were elected.
