“We will kill you all” – Revelations about the murderous attack on Rentis and the leadership team

Determined to assassinate police officers on the fateful night of December 7, 2023, they were the members of the alleged criminal organization dismantled by the Greek Police.

It is typical that on the night of George Lingerides’ serious injury, the 150 participants in the episodes, all organized in Olympiakos associations, left the stadium wearing black clothes and full face hoods. After gathering in Alexandrou Papadiamantis, they created roadblocks, setting fire to three garbage cans.

During the attacks, a flare hit the femoral artery of deputy constable Giorgos Lyggeridis, causing him to bleed profusely. While the unfortunate policeman was on the ground, one of the Olympiacos fans threw an improvised explosive device towards him which exploded near him and wounded him in his right leg.

At the time when the unfortunate Lyggeridis was fighting for his life, the fans were shouting towards him where his colleagues had gathered to give him first aid, “we have a war, you cops, we will kill you all”, “New Smyrna needs you again”, “they will find you all cold.”

A few days after the bloody attack, the two brothers who have been remanded in custody for the case in Rentis, refer to the time when Lyggeridis was on the ground injured by the naval flare and an improvised explosive device that exploded near him, injuring his leg.

The leading group of the criminal organization

According to the transmission of the Greek Police, 8 are the leading members of the organization in question, while all the rest “submit to their will”. The specific individuals, according to EL.AS, “were the core of the organization, on which its uninterrupted and continuous action was based, it chose the targets, planned and organized the criminal activity, playing an important role also during the executive stage, with a physical and guiding presence in almost all legal actions”. The younger and younger members of the organization, who were recruited at the stadium, also call them “big”, know them at least by face and recognize them as the leaders of “THYRAS 7”, i.e. the organized fans of Olympiakos. It is indicative that, without the order or approval of these individuals, “nothing is done”.

Recruitment and the “small”

Behind the leaders of the alleged criminal organization was an “army” of young people between the ages of 16 and 24 who were recruited from “Gate 7”. The “small” according to EL.AS, “Their desire to rise to the esteem of the “big”, makes them particularly violent and always willing to participate in attacks against the police or opposing fans. Following orders they caused, “beatings, damage to vehicles and objects, the manufacture and use of explosive and incendiary devices, robberies against persons, the use of weapons and other crimes that took place e.g. in an attack against Police forces, they should not be considered as individual acts of the natural perpetrators, but as part of the overall work of the criminal organization, being an integral part of their activity”.

Recruitment and submission to leadership

The leading members of the Criminal Organization recruit the “little ones” and always have them on their side, giving them free entry into the stadium. In particular, the “big ones” receive invitations from P.A.E. Olympiacos which they distribute to the “little ones” so that they can enter the stadium gates for free. Additionally they give them small “tips” when they send them to run errands for them such as buying them food or beers.
