The price of gasoline exceeded 2 euros per liter at gas stations in Patras, while in most it fluctuates steadily at 2 euros, causing strong concern to the citizens, as the days of Easter are approaching and traveling by car will be a luxury!

According to the president of the Federation of Gasoline Dealers of Greece, Michalis Kiousi, if the international price of oil will be increased tomorrow morning (due to Israel’s attack on Iran), it should be taken for granted that the Easter days will be significantly more expensive compared to today’s gasoline in our country.
As he typically mentions, in the event that on April 22 the stock markets start with a 3% increase in the price of Brent and crude oil (which also happened on Friday, April 19), it is possible that the average price of unleaded oil in the country will reach even the 2.10 euros per liter from the 1.99 euros/liter it is today. This means that in Athens, Thessaloniki and the other urban centers of the country the price of gasoline will be at 2.07-2.08 euros per liter, while in island Greece and the remote mainland regions of the country it will “climb” even at 2.40 euros per liter! Otherwise, it is estimated that there will be no further increase in the price during the Easter days.

“There are areas of the country, where residents do not see more expensive gasoline only on Easter days and the period of August 15th. There, people pay gas prices well above two euros per liter all year round. In these areas the price of gasoline today ranges from 2.18 to 2.25 euros per liter. Across the country, today’s average price is 1.99 euros per liter. Gasoline is obviously not cheap. Even if its value falls to 1.70 euros per liter, it will still be very expensive for the purchasing power of the Greeks. Unfortunately, whatever happens, our country does not lose the… bronze medal in Europe for the price of gasoline. This is happening because, from 2012, it was decided to impose very high excise taxes on Greece”, says Mr. Kyousis.
On the other hand, however, the international price of oil fell after Iran’s attack on Israel, surprising the markets, but in Greece consumers are paying increasingly expensive motor fuel prices. According to ERT, unleaded oil exceeds 2 euros per liter in more and more prefectures of the country, while in the Cyclades it even reaches over 2.3 euros. One of the reasons pushing up fuel prices is the decline of the euro against the dollar.
