There are more than 3,000 pages in the case file of the Sub-Directorate for Combating Violence in Sports Venues, which describe the actions of 158 people who, since 2019, have been allegedly involved in incidents of fan violence in Attica and the province.
According to information, for the total of 64 arrested, the Security police officers have identified the involvement of many of them even in more than 10 cases of fan violence. However, the same sources state that the narrow “core” of hooligans whose names are included in the case file, is about 20 people.
Let us remind you that in the previous months, an 18-year-old man was arrested as the natural perpetrator of the fatal injury of the 31-year-old deputy constable of the MAT, Giorgos Lyggeridis, with the EL.AS. to now have information about three to five people who had the role of moral author and are among the 158.
The leading figures who were arrested
The “key” person is considered I.A., who at the time of his arrest had about 5,000 euros in cash on him, with the authorities estimating that he might be planning to escape from Greece, as they realized that the cordon was tightening around him. He himself, after the fatal injury of Giorgos Lyggeridis, seems to have traveled to a Balkan country and stayed there for a period of time, in order to monitor developments in the investigation.
In the 3,000 pages of the case file, the role of the manager of the well-known trapper (he was from the first moment among the main suspects), who allegedly gave the 18-year-old natural perpetrator the fatal flare, is described, among other things. An equally well-known figure among the hooligans is the so-called “Romanian”, who was also arrested during the operation of the Directorate for Combating Violence in Sports Venues.
Sources of EL.AS. describe on flash.gr that the members of the criminal organization (s.s. this charge will be attributed to the vast majority of those arrested) acted with a different composition each time. The reason for 60 of those arrested, while the remaining 4 are on a case-by-case basis for the Narcotics Act and the Arms Act.
How the investigation was kept secret
It is worth mentioning the fact that the Security Police managed to keep the progress of the investigations secret for months, while in some places they “clouded the waters”, leaving some with the feeling that the preliminary investigation has either “frozen” or is not leading anywhere.
However, the statements, the videos, the photos, the legal meetings, etc. they “talked” and gave EL.AS. all those elements that were needed to “bind” the case file. Important evidence also emerged from the Forensic Laboratories where “weapons” and other items collected by the police were transported, after the fatal fight outside the closed gym of Rentis, and from the toilets of the stadium where hooligans set fire to clothes for to burn them and cover their tracks.
The police officers of the Sub-Directorate for Combating Violence in Sports Venues have also collected data on the “procession” of the vehicles that carried the “war munitions” outside “Melina Merkouri”, with the leaders of the hooligans giving the signal for the attack with the phrase ” let’s go out now to finish them off, to clean them up.”
