More than 114,200 voters have registered to date to vote by mail in the June 9 European elections, according to the latest official figures from the Ministry of the Interior, with the participation of non-Greek voters far exceeding the number of citizens who voted from abroad in last summer’s parliamentary elections. The voters in Greece who have declared that they will vote by mail today amount to 80,908, which demonstrates the particularly great interest that exists within the territory for the solution to the postal vote, at the time when the government has announced that it will seek to establish it and in the general elections, beyond this year’s European elections.

At the same time, those registered outside Greece now exceed 33,350, a number that is almost double compared to the 17,365 votes counted in the electoral centers of the overseas region last June.

Most registrations from abroad, at a rate that reaches 85%, are located in Europe, where 28,177 citizens have requested to receive the special file for participating in the elections. Almost 3,500 have registered in North and Central America, more than 700 voters will send their vote from Asia, while more than 600 will take part in the electoral process from Oceania.

According to information, Greeks living in countries such as Cambodia, Papua New Guinea, El Salvador, Kazakhstan, Ivory Coast, etc., have registered on the platform, countries in which no electoral division was established in the 2023 parliamentary elections. due to the restrictions that applied. Therefore, this is the first time that all Greeks abroad, regardless of their place of residence, will be able to vote in the upcoming European elections, without any restrictions.

All age groups are fairly well represented, in yet another indication of the widespread and widespread interest in postal voting. Citizens aged 41-50 and 51-60 currently account for 39.6% of those registered. The youngest, 17 to 30 and 31 to 40 years old, account for 30.8%, while older citizens, 61-70 and over 71 years old, account for 29.6%.
