The developments surrounding the case of the murderous attack against the 31-year-old police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis in Rentis last December are fast-paced.
It is recalled that the 31-year-old police officer died after being attacked with a naval flare in Rentis.
According to the information, since Monday morning (22.04.24) a major ELAS operation has been underway, with the authorities having made arrests and more than 50 spontaneous arrests.
In fact, among those brought in is the brother of the 18-year-old who threw the naval flare at the deceased police officer on the night of the dramatic incidents. His arrest came after a search of his home.
The operation of the Sports Violence Department of the General Police Directorate of Athens is ongoing, with the police operating in various areas of the basin and mainly in houses and cars of fans in western Athens.
As the same information states, from the investigations so far, convictions related to the murder of the police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis have emerged.
The number of those arrested is expected to increase, as other persons who are allegedly involved in fan violence have come under the microscope of the authorities.
More specifically, in the case file that has been filed, 150 names of people for participation in a criminal organization are included. More than 50 people have been brought in so far, while another 60 are being sought.
Those arrested will face charges of membership in a criminal organization and are expected to be charged for other incidents, not only for the dramatic ones in Rentis.
The 31-year-old policeman passed away on December 27, after a tough battle for 20 days in the ICU, following a serious wound to his thigh from a naval flare that he had received during the bloody incidents outside the “Melina Merkouri” stadium » to Rentis.
