More than 60 arrests and arrests were made today for the murder of police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis on December 7 with a naval flare outside “Melina Merkouri”.

The Police operation was launched on Sunday afternoon from Ioannina and as reported by ERT, one of the perpetrators of the attack tried to escape abroad. He was probably fleeing to Albania.

According to the same information, he was spotted in the city of Ioannina by police officers of the Sports Violence Department, riding in a car and moving towards the border.

The research was done all this time and the ELAS operation is ongoing. In the case file there are more than 150 names for involvement not only in the death of the policeman but also in other similar cases.

Those arrested will be brought before the prosecutor’s office on Tuesday, to be formally charged with the serious charges.

However, the Police investigations were not limited to Attica, but reached as far as Chania, Karditsa and Sparta. According to ERT, at least two pistols, naval flare launchers, flares, bats and a radio which was on the Police frequency have been found.

Clothes worn by some fans on the night of the attack on the MAT police officers were also found.
