Over 50 arrests and arrests for the Lyggeridis murder – Major police operation

A major police operation has been underway since Sunday evening to arrest the people involved in the fatal naval flare injury of the unfortunate 31-year-old police officer, Giorgos Lyggeridis, on December 7, 2023, outside the closed gymnasium of Rentis, where a volleyball match was taking place.

So far, more than 50 people have been arrested with the number of wanted people reaching more than 60 people and the operation continues. Also according to information, the case file that has been filed for the incidents in Rentis, has more than 150 defendants.

All are charged with, among other things, participation in a criminal organization, while the case file does not only concern Rentis’ case but also other fan incidents in which those involved had an organizational and executive role.

For the police operation and its results, official announcements are expected upon its completion.

“A large-scale operation by the Sub-Directorate for Combating Violence in the sports grounds of the Attica Security Directorate has been in full progress since the early hours of this morning to arrest people involved in the incident of the fatal injury of a police officer on 7-12-2023 at a sports event in Renti. So far, dozens of people have been brought in as well as a large number of searches in homes and vehicles, while various items of evidence have been seized.”

The 31-year-old police officer died on December 27, after a 20-day long battle, after being seriously injured by a naval flare during incidents that took place outside the “Melina Merkouri” stadium in Rentis during the “eternal” derby, Olympiacos – Panathinaikos.
