The police operation to arrest the people involved in the murder of 31-year-old Giorgos Lyggeridis by a naval flare, in the area of Rentis, is in full progress since Sunday evening (21/04).
Up to this time, hundreds of people have been brought in.
According to ERT information, this is the execution of relevant warrants. So far, more than 50 people have been arrested with the number of wanted people reaching more than 60 people and the operation continues. According to information, the case file that has been filed has more than 150 defendants.
All are charged with, among other things, participation in a criminal organization, while the case file does not only concern Rentis’ case but also other fan incidents in which those involved had an organizational and executive role.
For the police operation and its results, official announcements are expected upon its completion.

“A large-scale operation by the Sub-Directorate for Combating Violence in the sports grounds of the Attica Security Directorate has been in full progress since the early hours of this morning to arrest people involved in the incident of the fatal injury of a police officer on 7-12-2023 at a sports event in Renti. So far, dozens of people have been brought in as well as a large number of searches in homes and vehicles, while various items of evidence have been seized.”
Let’s remember that the incident took place on December 7, 2023, with the unfortunate policeman losing his life on the 27th of the same month.
The funeral of the young policeman was held in Thessaloniki a few days later.
