A major operation of the Sub-Directorate for Combating Violence in Sports Venues has been underway since dawn to arrest people involved in fatal attack with a naval flare against the 31-year-old MAT police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis on December 7, 2023 in Rentisbut also in other fan episodes.
According to information from police sources, so far, 57 people have been arrested, who are accused, among other things, of participating in a criminal organization, while the file that has been filed includes more than 150 people.
At the same time, in the context of the operation, a large number of searches have been carried out in houses and vehicles, from which various items of evidence have been seized.

It is recalled that the 31-year-old police officer passed away on December 27, after 20 days in hospital, after being seriously injured by a naval flare that he had received during incidents that took place outside the “Melina Merkouri” stadium in Rentis during during the volleyball match between Olympiakos and Panathinaikos.
