A major ELAS operation has been underway since the morning
An ELAS operation has been underway since the morning to bring in and arrest people allegedly related to the death of police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis who died after being severely injured by a naval flare thrown by hooligans outside the Melina Merkouri stadium in Rentis .
Although the number of arrests has not yet been clarified, according to reports they number in the dozens, with the police simultaneously conducting a search of various premises and houses to identify further evidence. According to information, the charges that those arrested are going to face relate to a criminal organization.
Giorgos Lyggeridis passed away on December 27, after a tough battle that he fought for 20 days, following his serious injury.
The 31-year-old had received a naval flare in the incidents that took place in Rentis’ closed, during the “eternal” derby, Olympiacos – Panathinaikos, for the League Cup.
