A very serious incident occurred in the peristyle of the Parliament between the Hellenic Solution Member of Parliament, Vassilis Grammenos, and the independent Member of Parliament, Konstantinos Floros, with the latter punching the former who was taken to the Parliament clinic for first aid.

The occasion was the discussion in the Plenary Session of the Parliament of the lifting of the immunity of the president of the Hellenic Solution, Kyriakos Velopoulos, whose case concerned defamation through a false account on a social network submitted by an officer of the Navy.

Mr. Floros, whose father had brought the lawsuit against Mr. Velopoulos, had requested to take the floor in the Plenary, however, the regulation did not allow it and he was not given it, reacting to the report of the parliamentary representative of the Hellenic Solution, Konstantinos Chitas, for carabinate pre-election political expediency which, although it does not concern Mr. Velopoulos, requested the lifting of his immunity in order to appear before his natural judge.

According to information, in the Plenary there was a verbal confrontation between Mr. Floros and Mr. Grammenos.

The same information states that Mr. Floros reacted by yelling at Mr. Chita that “the judges will judge this”, Mr. Grammenos replied “shut it you garbage”, while he continued with other heavy characterizations.

When the two men went out of the Plenary, Mr. Floros attacked him, grabbed him by the neck, punched him and threw him to the floor.

It is noted that Mr. Grammenos, according to the same information, had filed a lawsuit against Mr. Floros’ father for defamation through the press and insult.

Mr. Floros was sentenced to a 15-day suspension from the proceedings of the Parliament.

K. Tasoulas: “Beastly behavior”

Following a proposal by the president of the body, Konstantinos Tasoulas, the parliament decided to remove from the Parliament the independent MP K. Floros, accompanied by a guard.

On the occasion of the brutal, as Mr. Tasoulas characterized it, behavior of Mr. Floros against the MP V. Grammenos of the Hellenic Solution, Mr. Tasoulas said that when we were making the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament “we thought we were addressing fundamentally reasonable people” and that at this moment, “the heaviest that I can impose on the deputy who raised his hand against a colleague […] is to remove him, with the guard, for 15 days from the proceedings of the body.”

As Mr. Tassoulas said, “it’s a stroke of luck against the vulgarity and brutality of his behavior, but we’ll see later, obviously there will be a waiver of immunity, and he will also face the consequences of this brutal behavior.”

Obviously, Mr. Tasoulas added, Mr. Floros will also be referred to the Ethics Committee of the Parliament. In fact, addressing the president of Hellenic Solution, K. Velopoulos, who had risen to the podium, Mr. Tasoulas said: “Mr. President, I apologize as the president of the Parliament for this incident. I feel like it’s about me too. It happened a while ago here, outside the plenary. We will make sure that the consequences of this act are as severe as possible”, stressed Mr. Tasoulas.

Commenting on the episode, Mr. Velopoulos considered it “unthinkable, for politicians to behave violently like sheep-like wolves. Everyone can find as many excuses as they want […] Do you know what is the difference between humans and other animals? Animals may react if you tease them. But man differs in mind, judgment and logic, which some people do not have here, unfortunately”.

The reactions of the parties

SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance unequivocally and unequivocally condemns the beating of “Hellenic Solution” member of parliament, Vassilis Grammenos, by former member of “Spartias”, Konstantinos Floros, right outside the Plenary Chamber of the Parliament.

“This unprecedented and unimaginable incident demonstrates the contempt of far-right formations for parliament and emphatically reminds us of the danger posed to our Republic by the tolerance of hate speech and thuggery. Inside and outside the Parliament”, emphasizes SYRIZA. He adds that “all progressive forces must raise a wall of solidarity and respect against the challenges of the far-right who want to turn the Parliament and Greek society into a jungle”.
