Yesterday morning at 8:30 in the Elementary School “Vladislav Ribnikar” in Vračar, Serbia, seventh grader Kosta K. (14 years old) killed eight children and a school guard.
Belgrade police chief Veselin Milić said that at 8:40 a.m., the deputy director called the police to report the shooting, while the shooter himself called at 8:42 a.m., admitting what he had done.
Six children are hospitalized, one of whom is in serious condition. The seriously injured boy is the son of the country’s famous pulmonologist, Spasoj Popevic.
All the children killed were born between 2009 and 2011, seven girls and one boy were killed, police said.
“The 14-year-old stated that he was ignored by society and that throughout his social life he was excluded from communication and play or excursions and that this led him to commit the crime,” noted the police officer.
When asked if he made the four Molotov cocktails found in his bag himself, the police chief of the city of Belgrade replied that the attacker did not intend to set anyone on fire. “As he said, he wanted to build some kind of wall or barrier at the entrance so that the police or anyone else couldn’t come in and render assistance,” Milic said.
The attack and the arrest
The police commander reported that the teenage attacker used his father’s 9mm pistol and that during the attack he changed three magazines. Describing the attack, he said that the attacker first shot the guard at the entrance of the school, fatally wounding him. He then shot and killed the two schoolgirls who were housekeepers in the vestibule of the building, changed his magazine and entered the History classroom and after shooting the teacher opened fire on his classmates.
He went out into the school yard where there were students of younger classes, changed his magazine again, but the police intervened and stopped him. The perpetrator of the attack is 14 years old and attended the same school, in the 7th grade.
