Joel Embiid admitted with statements that he suffers from Bell’s palsy, which appeared just before the start of the playoffs. Read the details about the disease and its treatment.

Joel Embiid led the Sixers to a 125-114 victory over the Knicks in Game 3 of the series, stopping at 50 points. After the game, Adrian Wojnarowski revealed that the Sixers center suffers from Bell’s Palsy, causing concern, with Embiid admitting the news is true.

But what is Bell’s palsy or facial nerve palsy? According to the website iatronet.gr it is about “sudden-onset contralateral facial paralysis. The paralysis affects the upper and lower halves of the face.” In simple words, it is a paralysis of half of the face due to some infection, where the patient has an inability to control some muscles of the face, mainly in the eye and mouth.

Embiid himself, speaking on the subject, said: “I think it all started before the Miami play-in game. I had migraines and thought it was nothing. I usually don’t like to check it, but I discussed it with someone. That’s why I didn’t feel good about Miami. The left side of my face, mouth and eye are affected. It is disturbing. It’s hard, but I’m not giving up. It’s unfortunate, that’s how I see it, but it’s no excuse. I have to keep fighting.”

However, this disease is considered curable, but requires physiotherapy, medication and possibly surgery. If everything goes smoothly, then it takes about 3-6 months for the patient to heal.
