Iraola responded negatively to the renewal proposal presented to him by Rayo Vallecano, which keeps him on Antonio Cordon’s shortlist for the position of Olympiakos’ next coach.
Antonio Cordon continues his contacts for the hiring of a coach at Olympiakos and has a circle of contacts in his homeland with some technicians.
In the staff of the Spanish technical director are Martelino’s compatriots, Diego Martinez and Quique Flores who are free, but also Jose Bordalas who works at Getafe, Quique Setien who is on the bench at Villarreal and Anthony Iraola who works at Rayo Vallecano.
Regarding the latter, there was an important development on Friday (26/5), as the Spanish media report that Iraola rejected the offer to renew his contract made by the management of Rayo Vallecano and, in fact, that he informed the players that he will not continue with them in the new season.
Iraola has been on the bench of the Madrid team for three seasons (he has a total of 134 matches), while earlier he had worked at Mirantes and AEK Larnaca.
The 40-year-old technician is ready for the next step in his career and is already reportedly under the “microscope” of Villarreal, while as far as his beloved Athletic Bilbao is concerned, there is the former red and white Ernesto Valverde.
Regarding Olympiakos, Cordon will logically first exhaust every possibility to convince a compatriot of the coach and then he will turn to other solutions. As are the two free Argentines Gerardo Martino and Hernán Crespo.
Cordon will return next week to Greece and then it is expected that there will be significant developments regarding the new coach.
