A 19-year-old girl full of dreams was Thalia Kordambalou who lost her life within three days during an educational trip with the ship Prometheus she was on board.

The 19-year-old lived in Larissa in the neighborhood of Hippocrates with her family.

According to onlarisa.gr, he had attended the Naval Cadet School last year. Her parents Stelios and Maria and her brother Thanasis have fallen into mourning.

The Chronicles

Earlier today, the Naval Joint Chiefs of Staff announced her death during the Naval Academy Summer Training Program. 158 cadets participated in the sailing training on two ships, the frigate “Kanaris” and the general support ship “Prometheus” (the largest ship in the fleet). The 19-year-old cadet, who had just finished her first year of school, was aboard the “Prometheus”.

According to what has become known, the first-year Naval Cadet K.E. developed a high fever while on board the general support ship (GSP) PROMETHEUS, as part of the Summer Training Cruise of the Naval Cadet School.

He was immediately transferred to a hospital in Naples, Italy, on Tuesday 2/08/2022.

However, on the morning of August 24, her clinical picture rapidly deteriorated and she was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU). The young lady lost the battle this morning, according to the relevant announcement of the GEN.

It has not yet been established what caused the death of the 19-year-old, while two other students on the same ship developed a fever, but according to GEN sources, the two incidents are disconnected as the students suffered food poisoning.

When asked why a helicopter was not used to quickly transport her to the hospital, the answer was that initially her condition did not cause concern and the rapid deterioration occurred after the seaman was admitted to the hospital. The same sources said that the Greek ship was scheduled to dock at an Italian port a day later but hastened its arrival precisely because of the 19-year-old’s illness.

Specifically, the General Staff of the Navy, in its announcement, states: “On Tuesday, August 23, 2022, the First-Year Naval Cadet K.E. which was on board PROMITHEUS, as part of the Summer Training Course of the Naval Cadet School, was transferred to a hospital in Naples, Italy, as she developed a fever of unknown cause. In the morning hours of August 24, her clinical condition rapidly deteriorated and she was admitted to the ICU where she ended up in the morning hours of August 25.

The exact cause of death is being investigated. The Naval General Staff expresses its sorrow for the loss of the Naval Cadet and our sincere condolences to her family and loved ones.”
