In the next few hours, the effects are expected to intensify in many areas of the country, with strong storms, hail and winds.

On Monday, however, several areas of Northern Greece saw the first signs of severe bad weather with typical images of the flooded streets in Polygyros, Halkidiki.

Similar images from Ptolemais where the large amount of water caused many floodswith the fire department accepting over 160 calls for pumping out water in just three hours.

Where will the bad weather hit from tomorrow?

A worsening of the weather with heavy rains and storms, which will be accompanied by a high frequency of lightning, hail and temporarily, during the phenomena, by strengthened gusty winds, is predicted from Tuesday to Friday.

The phenomena will also manifest in hours outside of the classic instability (noon – afternoon) and will affect not only the mainland but also the island country and especially the Aegean. Thessaly, the Sporades, northern Evia, the northern Aegean and Halkidiki will receive the heaviest amounts of rain, mainly on Wednesday and Thursday.

On high alertwith a further escalation of the operational plans if necessary, the Fire Services of the areas where strong phenomena are expected to occur, have been set to deal with the risks of flooding, as well as, according to the Emergency Weather Worsening Bulletin issued today.

The General Secretariat of Civil Protection advises citizens to be particularly careful, to take self-protection measures, while it has issued a series of instructions to avoid risks and unpleasant effects, especially in areas where heavy rainfall, storms or gale-force winds are predicted.
