Shortly after Easter, the conclusion of a professor of the School of Chemical Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens is expected regarding the causes of the deadly explosion in Tempi, as BIMAtototis reports in the Sunday edition of Vima.
At the same time, new questions seem to preoccupy the legal and technical advisors of the victims’ families, as well as the judicial authorities.
The first of these concerns the detection of xylene in seven different places at the site of the railway tragedy. Xylene was initially associated with the “melting” – from high temperatures – of wagon paints and graffiti removal materials.
With the experts replying that: a) no alteration of the paint of the trains has been observed and mainly that b) the xylene was found in 3-4 places, where there were no wagons nearby, bringing back the question of whether the xylene comes from a possible illegal transport material from the commercial train.
At the same time, it is requested to speed up the investigations of the State General Chemistry for possible detection of substances in large volumes of soil that were plowed into a private area, in the context of the clearing of the area, for which a judicial investigation is already underway.
Kasselakis calls for speeding up the investigations
Stefanos Kasselakis asked for the speeding up of all relevant investigations and technical procedures, so that there would be an immediate valid answer on whether the commercial train was transporting illegal flammable materials in the fatal accident in Tempe, citing the report of BIMAtodoti in the Sunday edition of the newspaper “The Step”
The president of SYRIZA also asks to be answered if “xylene and possibly other substances were detected in the plots where soil volumes were illegally transported immediately after the Tempe accident”.
He emphasizes that “the Greek people will not once again go to the polls without knowing the truth”.
