“It’s great that some people hate and some people love Zari!”, said Marina Satti shortly before leaving for Malmö. In the Swedish city on May 9, he will perform live the song that will represent us at Eurovision.

Marina Satti spoke to the magazine “Tilerama” about the plans and goals of the Greek mission to Eurovision, where “Zari” will give her the big battle.

Below are highlights from the interview.

Payment: How did “Zari” come about?

Marina Satti: It was November 2023 when OGE sent me a piece called “Zari”. I asked him why he took it out like that and he replied because he doesn’t know if it will sit or not. And then I liked that title, so the verse for “Zari” was written on that idea. It wouldn’t be right to go with an English verse!

Telerama: What is Eurovision for you?

Marina Satti: I’ve been watching the contest since I was little, but it was never my dream to go to Eurovision! I hadn’t seen her in recent years, but I had seen her that time when Foureira was there. We had gathered in a house and really that night I was very anxious, I don’t know what had happened to me.

I had been offered several times by ERT to go to the competition and I had started to think about it and imagine it, but in the end I said no, because I didn’t feel that I was ready for all this exposure and I considered it somewhat irrelevant to the phase where I was and what I did then. Maybe I didn’t even have the confidence to back that up.
But this year, when it was suggested to me again, I said “why not?”. Anyway, in the context of what we do, I think it’s like going to a festival abroad, with many countries, with an audience from all over the world, and you have to present something from Greece.

Telerama: Are you stressed?

Marina Satti: We worked on “Zari” from last October until March. And when it came time to make it public for the first time on the ERT show, then yes, I was nervous. Now I don’t, because we also have work to do, but certainly as the day approaches, the stress can come again.

Telerama: Does the competition scare you?

Marina Satti: I don’t feel bad for any of the kids competing. It’s music and everyone brings what they want to bring. I would like us to go there and break them and for everyone to say “come on, man, what did Greece do!”. Now let’s just hope this works out well in the results as well. I want it, and especially for the people, who I see want it, expect it.

Telerama: How did the collaboration with Meznun, the choreographer of Madonna and Rosalia, come about?

Marina Satti: Meznun from Komotini is a perfect, shocking choreographer, who “talks” about what is happening right now! There are many choreographers who work with big names abroad, but I wanted to work with this particular one, because I knew he would catch it and because I think he is very daring, very direct.

Telerama: What roll would you like to bring on semi-final night?

Marina Satti: Well, what would I like to bring! Since we really don’t know what will happen with the result, it will be perfect if this impact that the song has had so far continues with the stage presentation.

Telerama: How do you see people’s reactions, as half love your song and the other half hate it?

Marina Satti: This is perfect! Anyway, nothing can please everyone, let alone this piece, which is somewhat more special! It’s much better than passing by and not touching…

And my mom, let’s say, when the song came out on ERT, because she hadn’t heard it before, she said to me: “I was a little surprised.” Of course, the other day he told me “my girl, how special you are” and something like that. I’m definitely glad the song had an impact and didn’t go unnoticed.”
