The case of the preliminary investigation ordered by the public prosecutor’s office in Spain against the wife of the prime minister, Pedro Sanchez, for corruption seems to be taking a new turn, as today, Thursday, April 25, he requested the dismissal of the case.

The case has sparked a political crisis in Spain, with the prime minister announcing he is suspending public duties until next week to decide whether he wants to continue leading the government. However, according to Reuters and Spanish media, the public prosecutor’s office in Madrid announced today that it has requested the dismissal of the case against the wife of the Spanish prime minister, who has been accused of corruption.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office said it was appealing against Wednesday’s decision by a Madrid court, as the Spanish organization Manos Limpias, which made the complaint, said today it had relied on media reports and could not vouch for their validity.

The group’s head, Miguel Bernad, said in a statement on Facebook that the group simply drafted and forwarded the petitions to a judge and denied that the action was politically motivated.

Sanchez, who last year secured another term in government for the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) as leader of a minority coalition government, said he would announce his decision on April 29. “I urgently need an answer to the question of whether it is worth it … to lead the government or to renounce this honor,” he wrote in a letter posted yesterday, Wednesday, on his X social media account.

Sanchez said his wife had done nothing illegal and was being attacked “to weaken me politically and personally”. He has stated that his wife will defend her honor and cooperate with the authorities regarding the appeal.
