Mixed feelings, but also reactions, were caused by the move of an MEP from Slovakia to leave a dove in the Plenary Chamber in Strasbourg as a “symbol of peace”.
Everyone in the European Parliament was left speechless when they saw MEP Miroslav Radzovski, leader of the right-wing “Slovak Patriotic Party” holding a small bag under his jacket, taking out a pigeon and releasing it into the chamber.
“I wish peace to the whole world, Russians and Ukrainians. I wanted to release this dove as a symbol of peace, that Europe needs peace. Let this dove unite us all”, were his words.
There were not a few who reacted, among them the French MEP of the Greens, Caroline Rouge, who accused Radachowski of carrying a live animal to the European Parliament, violating all the rules for animals.
“He used an animal hidden in his bag as a simple object to make a statement in favor of peace. What will you do to catch this animal sir?” he said.
Another colleague of the Slovak was shouting if she can catch it.
