A fire broke out at energy facilities in western Russia’s Smolensk region on Sunday after Ukraine launched a drone attack, while residents were forced to evacuate their homes in an area of southwestern Lipetsk region after a drone crashed into an industrial park, local officials said.

“Our region is again under attack by Ukrainian drones,” Smolensk governor Vassily Anokhin said on Telegram. “As a result of the enemy’s attack on energy facilities and fuel facilities, fires broke out in the Smolensk and Yartsevo regions,” he added without elaborating.

“The object was isolated”

Separately, Igor Artamonov, governor of the Lipetsk region, said a drone fell in an industrial zone. There were no injuries from the incident, but the residents of the surrounding area were forced to leave their homes for precautionary reasons.

“The object was isolated, there was no threat of an attack on a residential area,” Artamonov said. “It was decided not to activate the city’s warning systems and to evacuate only the area where the drone fell,” he added.
