When we talk about Taylor Swift, we have to accept that she has unquestionably emerged as the modern queen of vinyl.

With her new album ‘Tortured Poets Department’, Taylor Swift broke her own previous record for the most vinyl album sales in one week.

And Taylor Swift did it in just three days, with 700,000 vinyls of ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ sold over the weekend.

Taylor Swift held the previous record from last October with her album ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’ which sold 693,000 copies in a seven-day period.

And who held the previous record? But of course Taylor Swift again with the album ‘Midnights’ which set a record for vinyl sales when it was released in October 2022 with 570,000 copies.

Vinyl lovers rejoice

To find anyone other than Taylor Swift breaking the record you have to go back five months to ‘Midnights’ when Harry Styles sold 372,000 copies in the first week of ‘Harry’s House’.

It’s possible that there were albums that sold more than 700,000 vinyl copies in a week back in the 60s, 70s, or early 80s when vinyl was dominant, but that data wasn’t compiled back then.

In any case, there is no one else who has even come close to opening Taylor Swift’s LPs in the last 33 years.

Industry watchers, excited that vinyl is once again becoming the dominant form of sales, will be anxiously watching to see how high Tortured Poets reaches after seven days of sales instead of just three.
