Eminem celebrates another year of sobriety.

“When I got out of rehab, I had to lose weight, but I also had to find a way to function sober”

On Saturday, April 20, the “Lose Yourself” rapper, 51, completed 16 years of sobriety, sharing the event on Instagram with his fans. Grammy winner – aka Marshall Mathers – posted a photo of his hand holding a new talisman to commemorate the achievement.

“We are all very proud of you”

The comments section of the post [δεν περιέχει λεζάντα] was flooded with messages of support and congratulations for the rapper. “We are all proud of you for being 16 years sober,” read a note from fan account Stanistheone.

In addition to crediting his children – his biological daughter Hailie Jade and his two adopted children, Alaina and Stevie – with keeping him sober, Eminem also replaced his ‘addiction with exercise’

“Great decision you made brother! We are all very proud of you,” rapper DTG (real name Dylan Godfrey) wrote.

Eminen previously shared that a near-fatal drug overdose in 2007 was what pushed him to rehab after taking up to twenty pills a day.

“I remember when I first got sober and all the s— was out of my system, I remember being really happy and everything was new to me again,” he told Paul Rosenberg’s Paul Pod podcast in 2022.

“It’s basically an addiction to something else”

In addition to crediting his children – his biological daughter Hailie Jade and his two adopted children, Alaina and Stevie – with keeping him sober, Eminem also replaced his “addiction with exercise.”

“When I got out of rehab, I had to lose weight, but I also had to find a way to function sober,” the rapper told Men’s Journal in 2015. “In addition to being out of my mind, I was having trouble sleeping. So I started running. It gave me a natural endorphin rush, but it also helped me sleep, so it was perfect.”

Eminem added: “It’s easy to see how people replace addiction with exercise. It’s basically an addiction to something else, but something that’s good for them.”
