The village in the middle of Mani with the one inhabitant where the film was shot

THE film “The Slayer” directed by Eva Nathena and written by Katerina Bey began its cinematic journey in November 2023, while on the evening of Sunday 21/4 it was shown by Cosmote TV in programming and then on demand. Along with the all-star cast of protagonists, the film’s shots are dominated by the carefully selected landscapes that create the unique “frames” around the tough characters.

The film for the film adaptation of Fonissa by Alexandros Papadiamantis was shot in Athens, Crete, Skiathos and Mesa Mani.

Specifically, in the settlement of Mudanistika in Eastern Mani and the surrounding areas that provided the natural “studio” for the story of Fragogiannous.

The Mudanist are located in Mesa Mani on the ridge of Sangias. It is a traditional village that seems to have been forgotten by time, since it has no tourist infrastructure, among its picturesque tower houses. The landscape is “wild” and of unique beauty.

In winter everything seems deserted. The only resident is a stubborn maniac called “the last of the Mohicans”. While in the summer he finds company among the locals who return and open their families’ homes.

Fonissa brought life to the landscape while the crews remained there for filming. At the same time, residents of the surrounding areas took part as comparatists.
