The woman in her attempt to hold her suitcase ended up in his sea port of Piraeus.

The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon (24/4), when an officer of the 1st Port Department Tzelepi of the Central Port Authority of Piraeus, who was performing order measures duty during the preparation of the departure of the passenger/ferry ship Blue Star Naxos, gate E5-Kononos in the port of Piraeuswas notified by the voices of citizens about the existence of a 71-year-old foreign woman in the sea.

How did the incident happen?

The 71-year-old was a member of an excursion group that was about to board the. Heading towards the catapult, she lost the suitcase she was holding and in her attempt to catch it, she fell into the sea.

Immediately, the aforementioned officer of the Coast Guard fell into the sea, where with the use of a life jacket and the assistance of other officers of the Port Authority of Tzelepi and members of the ship’s crew, the woman was pulled ashore while still conscious.

Afterwards, ambulance crews of EKAV and PPA provided her with first aid.

The 71-year-old was in good health and stated that she did not wish for further medical care, and then boarded the ship bound for Paros.
