The Berlin he does not understand why Athens will not strengthen the Kyiv with missilesas reported by Politico.

Germany’s Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius he recently stated that he “expects” countries with stockpiles of missile systems to help Ukraine, which has been receiving unabated Russian fire since February 2022. He named two countries, the Hellas and Spainfor their refusal to bolster the war-torn country with missile systems.

“We asked and explained why we can’t do it,” said Kyriakos Mitsotakis for his part in his interview with SKAI, explaining that the systems are “critical for our deterrent capability”.

As the Prime Minister said, “Greece is not going to send Ukraine either S-300 or Patriot. We were asked and explained why we can’t do it. Let me explain it in a little more detail: Greece has supported Ukraine in various ways, with defense material. But we have said from the first moment that we cannot dispose of weapons systems which are critical to our deterrent capability. We have surplus material with which we can support Ukraine, we have done so and I think it is the right choice. And, to the extent that we can find such material, we will continue to do so. However, the air defense systems you mentioned are critical systems for the protection of Greek airspace and will not be granted to Ukraine.”

As Politico comments, Athens refuses to commit to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky the delivery of missiles for security reasons as the government worries about Turkey’s intentions. However, according to the relevant publication, Greece and Spain are not going to deliver air defense systems to Ukraine much to the chagrin of the warring country’s prime minister, Volodymyr Zelensky.

Today, about 50 leaders will hold US-led teleconference talks on coordinating further military aid to Ukraine.

However, today’s El Pais newspaper, citing unnamed sources, says that Spain will send a small number of Patriot missiles to Ukraine. Although the Iberian country has ruled out sending air defense systems to Kiev, it will eventually offer missiles, according to the Spanish newspaper. So far, Spain’s defense ministry has not commented on El Pais’ information.

Spain has three Patriot arrays, which it bought second-hand from Germany in 2004 and 2014underlines the Spanish publication.
