Church and government are now one step closer, just a month and a half before the European elections, after the messages of “close cooperation” sent out by the Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Archbishop Hieronymos during their joint visit to the Evangelismos tis Theotokou nursery school, which the Church has created in Delesi.

Moreover, the statement of the archbishop that “the church will not do what Velopoulos tells it” is also interpreted as a sign of good will.

In any case, the joint appearance of the two men carries a high level of symbolism, coming just days before Holy Week, taking place in the shadow of Velopoulos’ statements and just 45 days before June’s European elections.

“I want to emphasize that our cooperation in its institutionally defined framework was, is and remains extremely close” said the Prime Minister. He emphasized that “entering Holy Week, the Archbishop’s words about love and respect are more relevant than ever.”

Mr. Mitsotakis, after congratulating the Archbishop for the great and social work of the church, pointed out that “we look forward to the social footprint of the church that complements the state structures”.

Ieronymos: Cooperation is necessary

Earlier the archbishop sent his own message of unity and fellowship.

“At these times, cooperation is necessary,” said Mr. Ieronymos, adding that “we will not do what Mr. Velopoulos or any other party leader tells us.”

“We respect everyone’s opinions but we do what God says.

We have our firm lines the Gospel and the word of God” he noted and added that “I cannot go back to things that the Gospel does not say. I cannot identify with interests personally.”
